Your words carry weight—and power. Let me share why negative thinking must be replaced with bold, faith-filled declarations and why sometimes God simply replies: “If you say so.”
If You Say So…
Negative thinking can truly be the death of us—not just spiritually, but emotionally and mentally too.
I’ve learned this firsthand: if you don’t change your thinking, you won’t change your outcome.
I’ve been through a lot, and yet I still hold onto this truth:
This too shall pass.
Looking Ahead with Hope
I’ve already envisioned what I want 2020 (and beyond) to look like for me.
After years of health battles and life halts, I’m rewriting my next chapter—and it looks a lot like freedom:
- Revisiting my bucket list
- Getting back into the gym
- Traveling to new places—especially visiting my birth country, St. Lucia
- Finding a career that fits the new me (because let’s face it, the old me is gone)
- Reclaiming everything I had to press pause on
And every day, I’m learning to thank God for the people who left my life, because they never knew the comeback that was forming inside me.
The Battle with the Mind
Trust me—this isn’t always easy.
There are days when negative thoughts still try to win, but I’ve learned to nudge myself back.
Sometimes, God sends people to speak truth and positivity back into me.
And sometimes, I have to speak it to myself.
Want to know my biggest negative thought?
Stay tuned. I’ll be writing a full post on it—and turning it into something positive and powerful.
Reflection Questions
Ask yourself:
- How do I speak to myself? And to others?
- Is my speech lifting or limiting?
- What area of my life do I often complain about?
- How can I replace that complaint with thanksgiving this week?
Challenge:
Every time you feel tempted to speak negatively, find one thing to thank God for instead.
A Funny Story (That’s Also a Revelation)
The year was 1997.
I’d just finished homework and scarfed down a peanut butter waffle sandwich when I reached for a drink—milk straight from the carton (don’t judge me).
Only… the milk was spoiled.
Like, over-a-week-old spoiled.
Let’s just say… I puked so hard I think I dislodged gum from the second grade. 😳
TMI? Maybe.
But it reminded me of Matthew 15:10:
“It’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.”
— Matthew 15:10 (NLT)
What comes out of your mouth is more dangerous than what goes in.
Words Have Power
God hears the way we speak about everything:
“My car is junk. My job is stressful. My kids are ungrateful. My husband is lazy. My town is boring. My house is too small…”
And God’s response?
“If you say so.”
You will feel what you speak, and you will find what you seek.
So speak life.
Speak light.
Speak hope.
Speak healing.
Let It Be
In Matthew 8, a Roman centurion came to Jesus because his servant was sick.
Jesus agreed to come to his house, but the man said:
“Just say the word, Lord, and my servant will be healed.”
Jesus was amazed by this man’s faith and said:
“As you have believed, so let it be done for you.” — Matthew 8:13
(That’s where we get the word Amen, by the way—it literally means Let it be.)
So now, when I pray, I want God to look at me and say:
“Amen. Let it be.”
Final Reflection
You have the power to speak either dungeons or delight over your life.
And when you open your mouth, God listens.
He hears your declarations and says:
“If you say so.”
So what will you say today?
