Finding Peace in the Midst of Overwhelm

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
— John 14:27 (KJV)
Over the past two days, I’ve experienced something unexpected: peace.
Not because my circumstances changed, but right in the middle of the chaos—while juggling appointments, cancellations, rescheduling, and phone calls—I felt a calm that could only be from God’s presence.
Let’s be clear: I’m still concerned. I still have questions. But I’ve decided to let Jesus take the wheel—not in theory, but for real. And when we say “Jesus take the wheel”, we have to stop being the GPS, the co-pilot, and even the playlist. Sometimes all we’re allowed to do is hum…and trust.

A Mindset Shift: From Worry to Worship
We all have that one thing we constantly worry about. Maybe it’s finances, health, family, or the future. If it’s tied to what you’re watching, reading, or listening to—limit or eliminate that source. Protect your peace.
Then, write a prayer to replace the worry. Whenever the thought pops up, speak the prayer instead. If you have to do this 50 times a day—don’t feel discouraged. That’s 50 more conversations with God!
Mindset changed: This too shall pass.
Response: Pray instead.
Philippians 4:6–7: The Blueprint for Peace
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God… will guard your hearts and minds.”
— Philippians 4:6–7 (NKJV)
We are told to pray instead of worry. Easier said than done, right?
Author Max Lucado put it beautifully:
“No one can pray and worry at the same time.”
But most of us choose worry—because it feels automatic. Let’s reverse that. Make prayer your go-to. Make peace your default, not panic.
3 Practical Steps for Overcoming Worry
✨ 1. Entertain Healthy Thoughts
Worry feeds off “what ifs.” Capture those thoughts like a thief in the night and replace them with scripture. God’s Word becomes your new narrative.
✨ 2. Live Grateful
Gratitude is a natural antidote to anxiety. Start a daily gratitude journal. It doesn’t have to be complicated—just write down 3 things each day that make you smile or remind you of God’s goodness.
✨ 3. Celebrate Small Wins
Every time you catch a worry and choose prayer instead, that’s a win. If you mess up the next moment? Grace. Just start again.
Final Encouragement: It Takes Time, But It Works
Worrying has become a habit for many of us—so unlearning it takes time. But with each moment you choose peace over panic, prayer over pressure, and worship over worry, you’re rewriting your response.
You may not feel perfect, but you’re progressing.
You’re not just “finding peace”—you’re learning to live in it.
🧠 Reflect & Replace
- What’s your biggest worry?
- What scripture can you turn into a daily declaration?
- How can you thank God today—even before the answer comes?
